Solstice was commissioned and premiered by the Cecilian Singers in 2024 with conductor Dr. Jared Corbett. The text was written by a life-member of the choir, Margaret Naismith:

Winter solstice, Dark mysterious,

Folding into the year, womb like

Gestating the foetus, spring.

The earth holds it's breath,

Waiting for the sun to turn.

Uncertain that the miracle will happen.

A season hidden, strange,

Like frozen lives over which we skate

Not noticing the cracks

Until the water claims us.

How can we unlock the past,

Redeem the words not spoken?

Only wait.

In silence and in love

We watch the winter sun

Flame in the darkness
